Kyla Rowland & Deliverance
Profile
We began as “The Rowlands”, but I cannot pinpoint a time.
My children, Barry and Allyson, were singing by five years old,
and singing harmony not long after that. My mother was an
extraordinary pianist, and a good singer, so I was born into a world
of going to church, Daddy preaching, Mother playing and singing.
I asked my brother, Ron, who taught us to sing and play the piano,
but we could not come up with an answer. We can't remember
not singing. It is simply who we are.
The family group has undergone changes through the years due to
geography, the children marrying and having little time to travel.
As it stands now, Ron continues to carry the name of “The Rowlands”,
and I, “Kyla Rowland & Deliverance”. I left the road in
1995 to care for Mother. I had been singing with Ron for about
eleven years. When I returned to traveling four years later,
I was limited by continuing to care for Mother, and speaking at
ladies meetings which cut into time for singing. It wasn’t
feasible for Ron and I to blend our ministries.
Now, I can honestly say Kyla Rowland and Deliverance is my husband,
Bob and me. Bob’s background is almost identical to mine.
His father pastored, his family sang, in fact, one of Southern Gospel’s
patriarchs, J. G. Whitfield, was a member of the church Bob’s father
pastured in Pensacola, FL.
We always have someone to sing the third part, but it varies form
week to week. In Georgia, we have two wonderful high singers,
Nikki Shaw, and mostly, Robin Rogers. In North Carolina, we
have Pam Graham, then for all appointments North and West there
is Damon Depew from Kingsport, TN and my first cousin, David Shepherd.
Of course, my son, Barry and his wife, Tammy go with us on occasion,
and Tammy’s brother who is my best friend, Bill Martin, will sing
a date or two with us every year.
This is a network of young Christian friends and family whom God
has strategically placed in our lives to help us in the ministry.
Each of them have children, careers, home churches, but, as only
the Father could arrange, one of them is available every time we
need them.
Bob and I have enjoyed our present arrangement very much.
It seems that God has gone to a great deal of planning to orchestrate
all these fine young talents into the ministry. He simply
does all things well.
